Health ministry on Monday informed that as many as 32.8 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered since the start of the vaccination drive that began from January 16. Out of these, one crore healthcare workers took the first dose and 72 lakh got the second dose as well. Following a new policy, India has administered over 3 crore, 91 lakh vaccine doses in the last one week itself.
Given the population size, with 5.5 crore people being fully vaccinated, it is only 5.6% of the total population. India stands behind US where about 15.3 crore people are vaccinated.
“India’s vaccination drive keeps gaining momentum! Congrats to all those who are driving this effort. Our commitment remains vaccines for all, free for all,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 46th consecutive day as said by the government. India also saw a decline in the number of fatalities, the lowest in the last 76 days. The active cases declined to 5,72,994 comprising 1.89 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 96.80 per cent, the data updated at 8am showed. A net decline of 13,409 cases has been recorded in the COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
